Brahmavihara Monastery & Retreat Centre is founded by Bhante Dr Dhammapala Maha Thero.
The objectives of Brahmavihara Monastery & Retreat Centre are:
(1) To adhere to the Buddha’s teachings based on the Teaching of Elders (Theravada);
(2) To establish and maintain Sangha Community for the promotion and continuation of the Buddha-sasana; and
(3) To provide a practice and learning platform for monastic and laity.
Nestled in a serene and tranquil atmosphere, the headquarter of Brahmavihara Monastery & Retreat Centre is located within the vicinity of Tanjung Minyak, Melaka and measuring in area approximately 4.6 miles in total.
It has branches, i.e.: Bodhivana in Sungai Pelek Selangor, and The Centre of Mindfulness in Hong Kong.
The monastery is rooted in the Theravada traditions. The monastery strives to provide a meditation practice platform for monastic and laity. It also promotes four Buddhist virtues and enlightens people to aware of suffering, knowing the cause of suffering, practice the way to eliminate suffering and attaining freedom from suffering.
By taking approximately of 10 years to complete the whole development, it is expected that Brahmavihara Monastery & Retreat Centre will be a comprehensive Buddhist monastery with a Sangha community living inside.
The buildings within the monastery which will be constructed in phases consist of:
(1) Amata Community & Education Centre,
(2) International Meditation Retreat Centre (will be completed in June 2019), and
(3) Sangha Park (completed in 2018).
The building philosophy of the monastery is: eco-friendly, green and tranquillity.
Hence, a beautiful landscape gardening coupled with pavilions, Buddha sculpture and pools will be built within the monastery to create a Zen inspired atmosphere that nurtures one’s inner peace.
Each Centre has its independence role and function to cater for the needs of monastic and laity. For example, a group of Sangha members who adhere to and living with the established rules set by the Buddha will be lived in the Sangha Park. Laity can come over to the monastery to practice giving (dana), Dhamma learning and meditation.
A regular meditation course led by meditation masters / instructors around the world will be held in International Meditation Retreat Centre for public participation. To let one get a taste for the incredible Buddhist cultural and temple life which has blossomed since the Buddha time, International Meditation Centre will organise “Temple Stay” programme.
As for Amata Community & Education Centre, it will organise various activities for the benefits of the society.
The monastery will be mainly managed by Brahmavihara Berhad, and assisted by Melaka Cheng Amata Dhamma Centre and The Centre of Mindfulness, Hong Kong.
